‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ pop-up cafe in Tokyo

The Shibuya Tsutaya collaboration cafe in Tokyo hosted a pop-up cafe themed after the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie “Deadpool & Wolverine” between July 17 and August 5, 2024.

I visited it on opening day. My ticket cost ¥550 and was for the 11:20 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. slot.

Themed food and drinks

The menu had several themed items, including cups of popcorn with “red hot” (Deadpool) or “yellow butter curry” (Wolverine) flavours.

I went with the most eye-catching dish: “I [heart emoji] 2 Tier BFF[heart emoji][heart emoji] Box-Red Rice & Yellow Curry.”

The rice portion included layer shaped to look like Deadpool’s mask. The curry had three pieces of, if I recall correctly, baby corn to represent Wolverine’s claws.

I also chose the “I [heart emoji] Coca-Cola” drink.

It included two sticks of what appeared to be Pocky, to represent Deadpool’s Katanas.

Other drinks included “Claw Chips Yellow Juice” with three potato chips to represent Wolverine’s claws, and “‘Don’t Mix Them, It’s Dangerous’ Juice” coloured in yellow and red.

A diner next to me had the latter and the “I [heart emoji] French Toast with Yellow Fruit and Ice Cream” dish (pictured below).

Free stuff

A staff member gave me a couple of stickers, visible starting at 1:01 in the video embedded earlier in this post, when I first sat down.

In a draw, patrons could win necklaces, a t-shirt, lapel pins, or “Bank of Deadpool” banknotes.

I’m not sure what I’m going to do with my fake 100,000 yen.

Elsewhere in the cafe were TVs playing the movie’s trailer on repeat, posters, books featuring the characters, and a giant-sized version of the pendants attached to the aforementioned necklaces.

Life-size statues

Finally, the biggest draws — for selfies, mainly — were two life-size statues (Beast Kingdom’s LS-098 and LS-099) of the movie’s eponymous characters.

While it was neat to see Wade Wilson close up, James “Logan” Howlett (AKA Weapon X) finally wearing a relatively comic-accurate costume and cowl was especially cool to check out.
