Steve Silva is a video journalist (MMJ) for Global News in Halifax, N.S. He covers general news for the station's morning, evening, and night newscasts, along with the station's website. He shoots and edits his own stories, as he did as a reporter/anchor/VJ for the network in Regina, Sask., between 2013-2015.
He completed his master of science degree (broadcast journalism) at Columbia University in New York City in 2013. Studying there gave him the opportunity to cover Superstorm Sandy before and after it hit the city, and the 2012 congressional elections.
His work has been published/aired in The Toronto Star, Moyers & Company, One80, The Etobicoke Guardian, NY City Lens, Wings of Hope, CBC Radio's Metro Morning, Ryerson University Athletics, and university papers The Ryersonian, and The Eyeopener. He interned and was then hired at CBC News as an editorial assistant for CBC News Toronto, News Network, and The National. Previously, he was a freelance cameraperson for Toronto's Portuguese TV news station FPTV, and a contract video editor for OpenFile.
Born and raised in Toronto, Steve holds Canadian and Portuguese citizenship.
